London: No Free Abortions For NI Women
The London’s High Court has ruled that women from Northern Ireland are not allowed to receive free abortions from the NHS in England.
The burden of having an abortion
The case follows a claim by a 17-year-old girl and her mother who have brought the issue against the Health Secretary, Jeremy Hunt.
They are known as “A” and “B,” as their identity cannot be revealed for legal reasons.
In Northern Ireland, abortion generally remains unlawful, but it’s allowed in very restricted circumstances.
This is why more than 1,000 women every year travel from NI to have an abortion in other parts of the United Kingdom.
‘Physical and mental health’
In his judgment at London’s High Court, Mr. Justice King said the differences in the legal position had “not surprisingly led to a steady stream” of pregnant women from Northern Ireland to England to access abortion.
He said Hunt’s goal to promote a comprehensive health service in England “is a duty in relation to the physical and mental health of the people of England.”
Eating Disorders: Not Just Women’s Issues
There’s a notion that only women experience eating disorders. However, scientists said that young men also have body image issues and many of them are overlooked.
Not enough courage?
UK researchers found out that eating disorder in men is not a known problem because they don’t seek medical attention.
One common reason they don’t seek help is they don’t know the disorder’s symptoms.
“Our findings suggest that men may experience particular problems in recognizing that they may have an eating disorder as a result of the continuing cultural construction of eating disorders as uniquely or predominantly a female problem,” said Dr. Ulla Raisanen and Dr. Kate Hunt.
Not enough knowledge?
The researchers interviewed nearly 40 young people aged 16 to 25, 10 of whom are men, about their eating disorder experiences.
They discovered that these men with issues were “underdiagnosed, undertreated, and underresearched” despite making up about a quarter of diagnosed cases.
One participant said he though anorexia and other eating disorders only affect “fragile teenage girls.”
Yahoo! Plans To Take Most Coveted YouTube Stars, Sources Say
Marissa Mayer-led Yahoo! shift toward a full-sized video-network center is gaining stream, a move that will be ran in part by talent poached from YouTube, report says.
Convincing to Switch Allegiances
Citing sources close to the situation, the company is looking to go to its video-content offerings by convincing famous YouTube stars with their deals to switch commitments. The sources added that Yahoo! is planning to acquire individual talent and channels rather than launching a standalone video website similar to YouTube.
Offering More Cash to Talents
Established to launch within a couple of months, the effort to draw talent away from Google’s video service apparently hinges on providing more cash, said the sources. “Yahoo executives have told video makers and owners that the company can offer them better economics than they’re getting on YouTube, either by improving the ad revenue or by offering guaranteed ad rates for their videos,” the sources added in a statement.
Yahoo! has not responded to the claims yet.
Facebook’s Oculus Purchase Draws Flak, Cancelled Projects
Speculations of the purchase of virtual reality startup Oculus VR was not a surprise; as for many, it was simply a question of when it will be bought. The shock factor for Internet users, however, comes from who purchased the company, as news of Facebook’s acquisition of the firm came out of nowhere.
‘Facebook is scary’
Gaming news site Kotaku broke the news of the deal in a tone different than usual, saying: “Facebook has just announced that it’s buying Oculus Rift for $2 billion. Seriously.”
Reddit users weren’t as friendly as Kotaku, as many have expressed rage and frustration at how what was heralded as the future of gaming would simply give in to a $2 billion deal.
Joshua Topolsky of The Verge also commented on the issue.
“As a service, Facebook is inspiring, as a platform, Facebook is scary. The company now controls one of the most exciting technologies of the past fifty years. A truly revolutionary product that has reignited a dream that many felt was all but dead and gone. What it will do with that technology is the only question that remains,” he wrote.
Many game developers also cancelled their efforts in making games after the deal.
The most notable one is Markus “Notch” Persson, the person behind the block building game Minecraft.
“We were in talks about maybe bringing a version of Minecraft to Oculus. I just cancelled that deal. Facebook creeps me out,” he tweeted.
Oculus started as a crowdfunding project on website Kickstarter. It gained the support of the gaming community and even giant companies like Valve.

Oprah Decides To Sell ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ Longtime Home
Oprah Winfrey is selling Harpo Studios to Chicago Developer in a sale-leaseback deal that would keep the studio at the site for the next two years.
Now signing off

The property will be leased back to Harpo for two years and the studio will continue to produce programming for OWN.”
The decision to sell the campus comes close after Winfrey signed off from her talk show in favor of launching the Los-Angeles based Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).
End of an era
Since the talk show finished, Harpo has continued to have a presence at the campus, with workers producing content for OWN.
Winfrey filmed the “The Oprah Winfrey Show” at the studio from 1990 to 2011.

Broncos Sign Talib To Six-Year, $57 Million Deal
Toppled by the league’s best secondary, the Denver Broncos made a crucial step in the first day of the free agency to establish their defensive backfield to a somewhat similar model.
Broncos signed former Cleveland Browns safety T.J. Ward to a four-year, $23 million deal, with $14 million guaranteed. As an added measure, they also made a bigger splash by signing former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Aqib Talib to a six-year, $57 million deal with $26 million guaranteed.
A Big Spending
It’s a significant amount for someone who’s never played 16 games in a season, as Talib was selected in the first round of the 2008 draft out of Kansas. He also had league suspensions before he played well for the Patriots.
Aqib Talib had been given a four-game suspension the month before a violation of the NFL’s rule on performance-improving substances.
In Other Denver News
The Broncos ended discussions with ex-cornerback Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie, also a free agent. This means that Chris Harris will likely be lined up opposite Talib.
Burger King Aims To Boost Health Portfolio Through ‘Satisfries’
Fast food giant Burger King aspires to gain reputation in serving healthy grub by tying up with ketchup brand Heinz. The collaboration sees the launch of Satisfries, which contains low calories.
The launch of the product marks the first promotion in the UK between the two food brands, which are both in the portfolio of business magnate Warren Buffet and 3G Capital. Satisfries debuted last year in the U.S with marketing messages claiming that the food contains 30% less fat than leading competitors’. To complement the campaign, Heinz initiated a PR effort to promote its very own ketchup with reduced salt and sugar.
The Same Principles
Lucy Clark, the senior brand manager of Heinz in Europe, says the move aspires to stress that both brands commit themselves to offering healthier food alternatives. Both brands are signatories to a responsibility deal that aims to reduce obesity rates in the UK.
